Lost and Found

Origami Pirate Girl can't believe that she will be hanging out with the amazing Oliver Jeffers at Small Print Toronto's Totsapalooza!

Details below:

SMALL PRINT TORONTO’s annual celebration of the DIY spirit in kid culture, TOTSAPALOOZA, turns five in February, 2013. To celebrate this milestone, they’re hosting an exclusive Toronto appearance by internationally renowned visual artist and children’s author OLIVER JEFFERS on FEBRUARY 2 at REVIVAL (783 College St).

Jeffers will read some of his recent picture books, such as the bestseller Stuck and guide the 2-to-8 set through related crafts, like making penguins that can actually fly.

The afternoon will also feature sets of original music by esteemed indie rocker and producer DON KERR. And a performance by tween rap poets THE RHYME STEW CREW.

Seasons Greetings 2012

Seasons Greetings 2012

Twas the week before holidays, and all through the city,
Three brothers were working quite hard on this little ditty.

They thought about the great stuff, that happened this year,
Their picture book was born, with plenty of cheer!

The Pirate Girl’s Treasure: An Origami Adventure,
Where Peyton’s words, Ben’s pics, and Hilary’s drawings all come together.

With the book now available online and in stores,
The brothers read in embassy libraries, international schools, book festivals and more!

We’re so happy to share with you our newest creation,
And hope you enjoy the origami on your winter vacation!

Warm holiday wishes from,
The Brothers Leung

:: Word on the Street ::

When I was younger, The Word On The Street Book & Magazine Festival was this magical Sunday where everyone could share their love for books in a huge public street. Back in the day, WOTS would close off a busy Queen Street and pave it with wonderful books, great magazines and all sorts of celebrated words - as far as the eye could see! It was a book lover's paradise!

Michael Martchenko

But that's not all! There are many amazing oppourtunities to meet some fantastic book creators! It was at WOTS, where I met my childhood idol Michael Martchenko (e.g. illustrator of The Paperbag Princess). Not only was I able to meet him, but I was able to chat and learn how he got into Picture Books (at 40 years young!) Michael was kind, patient and an absolute inspiration!  Isn't it great when your superstar idol is also a nice person?

Fast forward a decade later *wow* and now my brothers and I are not only attending WOTS, but we are also presenting our very own book at the Children’s Activity Tent! That's right The Brothers Leung have a very special Pirate Book Reading & Origami Activities planned from 3:00pm - 4:00pm!

Peyton, Ben and I are all super excited and honoured to be a part of this truly special event next Sunday (Sept.23)!

Hope to see you there!

cheers,
Hilary Leung
